Mario cereal box doubles as an Amiibo

This is weird.

Super Mario: Odyssey is getting a cereal tie-in in America which is, you know, standard I guess. It has little bits of marshmallow shaped like mushrooms in it. You know. The usual.

The weird bit? The box is also a working Amiibo.

By scanning the back of the cereal packaging (which, presumably has some kind of NFC chip in it) breakfast loving Switch owners can gain in-game rewards in Super Mario Odyssey.

What the box actually gives you is currently unknown, but unless you’re living in the US you may never find out. Kellogs, the distributor of the cereal, has confirmed that there’s no plans to release it outside of that territory.

Still. An Amiibo that’s also a cereal box. What a time to be alive.
